Marquesas
This archipelago is 1400km north east of Tahiti and is the northern most in all the French Polynesia . Composed of 14 islands and islet of which only six are inhabited.
The Marquesas are relatively untouched by western influences because of their geographic isolation and just two of the 14 islands have recently opened to international tourism, Nuku Hiva and Hiva Oa . This destination is only for the adventurous nature lovers who like hiking and diving as the Marquesas are a paradise of spectacular waterfalls, abundant sea life and quiet unspoiled places. The beauty of these islands inspired Paul Gaugin and it is on Hiva Oa that he was buried.
The Marquesans are famous for their wood carvings and you'll have the opportunity to visit with the local artists in their home workshops. |
