Chicoana

Located in the community of Chicoana, Nuevas Sendas operates a 19th century Spanish Colonial style inn, featuring a full service restaurant, bar, swimming pool, and private baths. Special traditional meals are prepared with organic fruits and vegetables grown in Nuevas Sendas own organic gardens. The inn serves as the gateway to the following custom tailored itineraries.

EXCURSIONS
Overnight Tour - Calchaquies Valley/ceramic artists of San Carlos and Quilmes
|
After breakfast the days adventure begins by driving south through the Lerma Valley to enter the Calchaquies Valley. The rivers of the Andes have carved the deep canyons, exposing the multicolored strata. Our guide will lead a hike in the canyons and discuss the geological history of the spectacular sedimentary rock formations. Continuing south to the province of Tucuman we will arrive at the pre- Hispanic ruins of the 1000 AD Quilmes Indian. This is one of the best-restored archeological sites in Argentina revealing a complex urban settlement that once housed 5000 people. Our guide's rich archeological background will bring the ruins and it's people to life for you. Heading back north we will enjoy the varied nightlife of Cafayate. Overnight in Cafayate.
The following morning we will meet with a local wine grower for an intimate look at the regions unique vintages. After lunch we will continue on to the artist community of San Carlos. Return to Chicoana.

Chicoana Relaxation/Exploration

There will be a free day to do to explore Chicoana, go horseback riding, visit cultural sights in Salta or simply lounge by the Inn’s swimming pool. For those who would like to experience a little more adventure we will go out to Martin’s land outside of Chicoana for an overnight camp out under the stars. |
More Excursion Options
Enchanted Valley

After breakfast, we will depart from Chicoana, through the subtropical region, rising from an elevation of 4,000 ft. through the colorful Valley Encantado, (Enchanted Valley) to the top of Cuesta del Obispo at 11,873 ft. This is the main entrance to Los Cardones National Park. Here we will spend time hiking and exploring the park, named for the giant candelabra cacti, (cardones) which can live to be one thousand years old. Return to Chicoana for farewell dinner. |

As seasonal rains could make the pass to Cachi and Seclantas more challenging to cross the following extension would be subject to weather conditions. If the conditions turn out to be ideal we would overnight Cachi and make a circle trip to Cafayate. Overnight in Cafayate and then return to Chicoana visiting all of the sights detailed in the Calchaquies Valley/ceramic artists of San Carlos and Quilmes excursion.
Next we will continue on to the scenic Colonial town of San Jose del Cachi, featuring an 17th century church who’s ceiling, alter and confessional are crafted from the interior of the cactus. We will also visit the Rio Pablo Dia Museum of Archeology. Lunch is prepared at Juan's Inn where you can sample scrumptious empanadas and eye watering hot sauce! Next we will continue on to Seclantas and visit the Centro de Artesiana shops with the highlight of a visit to a local weavers studio.In addition, half-day visits in the historic city of Salta, can be arranged for our arrival and departure days. Salta has a variety of museums and restaurants featuring traditional meals of Empanadas, humitas and tamales and selection of regional wines.
