Even though this was my fourth trip to Tahiti and the second in-depth visit this year, I still am amazed by the surreal and dream like quality of the beauty. One is almost drawn to her islands again and again to be reassured that they really do exist. I was invited on an exclusive seven-day tour with a few of the top Tahiti Travel Specialist in the United States. I visited three of the Society Islands, Bora Bora, Moorea, Tahiti as well as two Motus (small islands) off the island of Tahaa. This past spring I visited the more remote islands of the Tuamotu Archipelago and felt it was important to revisit the Societies. The accommodations here top the list of the world’s most luxurious resorts. No expense has been spared in combining creature comforts with the rich natural beauty of the islands. Mother of Pearl and oyster shell chandeliers grace the ceiling illuminating the dining room with a white sand floor at one resort. Another resort features open air bath tubs and plunge pools for the beach bungalows and sliding glass wall that opens the entire bedroom to sea breezes and spectacular turquoise waterscapes for the over water bungalows. The unique amenities of each property are too numerous to list and besides the photographs will take your breath away. A personal favorite was the exquisite newly completed Tahaa Pearl Resort, which is striving to be the premier resort of the Pacific! French Polynesia also has the distinction of combining the world-class culinary arts of France with the bounty of the tropics. Every meal, a work of art served with flare, was a gourmet showstopper. For those of you who live in San Francisco, imagine eating two meals a day at Farallon ten days in a row! Departing from the group at the end of the week I returned for one evening in Papeete to meet with local guides and friends I had made on my last visit. Then I continued on a short inter-island flight the next day back to Raiatea and then by boat to the very unique Vahine Island Resort. The charm of this intimate property quite simply put is in its incredible hosts and it’s exclusive and primitive luxury. The only resort on the Motu with just nine attractively appointed beach and overwater bungalows, it is possible to have the entire island to yourself and a select group of friends or a family reunion. This is my idea of perfection! I was a truly able to kick back in style, surrounded by the all the vibrancy of Tahiti’s colors and scents, as well as fly in a purple fantasy while diving in a coral bed 165 feet below the surface of the Pacific Ocean. The perfect end to my stay in paradise! I cannot emphasis enough what an outstanding destination Tahiti is for a variety of vacation experiences. As always I am anxious to share my latest discoveries with any one considering a journey to French Polynesia and create an experience that you too will wonder if you conjured in a dream. IA ORANA! |
