DOUG AND AIMEE'S HONEYMOON
Catamaran Charter to Sail the Mamanucas
4 night private Catamaran Charter Sailing Amongst the Mamanuca Islands
The next leg of our trip was by far the best. I chartered a 38ft catamaran (sailboat with 2 hulls) with a captain to sail us around the islands. So it's just Aimee, me and the captain, Valentino, who happens to be a 41 year old Swiss guy who is amazing! He used to be a professional hang glider. He's been sailing for 10 years and the past 5 have been in Fiji. Aimee and I have decided we will buy a boat in 10 years. I want to NOW!
Anyways, here is a recap of a day (we did bascially this for all 5 days, I had chartered the boat for 4 nights): get up around 8:00-9:00, take a dip and get some breakfast. By the way the water is crystal clear and perfect temp. After breakfst start to sail somehwere. Read, talk, relax while sailing. Stop by an island and go snorkelling/eat lunch. He prepares all meals for us and he's a GREAT cook! Have a bottle of white wine with lunch. AFter lunch sail again to where we are going to anchor for the night, drink beer and read/talk/relax during this time. Anchor for the night and take a dinghy to shore of the island we're achored next to. We generall had the whole beach to ourselves to hang out and watch the sunset. After susnet head back to the boat and have a few "sundowners" - basically Rum with a splash of water, sugar and lime/lemon juice. Hang out and talk/play yahtzee. Then he would cook dinner for us which we would eat with a bottle of red wine. After dinner hang out for awhile until going to bed around 10:00-11:00. Man that was awesome.
I was saying on the boat how people search their whole lives for moments like we were having, perfect weather, perfect place, perfect people to share it with....One night he took us to a village where we drank kava with the grandfather of the village. Kava is this root that they grind up to a powder then mix with water and you drink it. It generally looks like cocaine or heroin, but it isn't. It makes your mouth kinda jnumb, makes you really happy and then makes you tired. Well we sit and drink with the villagers for about 2 hours before heading back to the boat. We eat dinner and the usual and Aimee goes to sleep.
