DOUG AND AIMEE'S HONEYMOON
Hideaway and Raintree Lodge
First Stop Hideaway Resort, down the Coral Coast of the main Island of Viti Levu
FIJI IS AMAZING! The people were amazingly nice and beaches/water are just what you expect in paradise!

We left on Sunday and arrived at 5:30 AM Tuesday morning, we lost a day due to crossing the international date line. We were picked up from the airport and taken to our resort along the southern
part (coral coast) of the main island Viti Levu. We went to a resort called the Hideaway which was a great starting point. We basically rested and layed out and snorkelled and drank the days away. The staff were amazingly friendly and the grounds were beautiful. We had an outdoor shower/bath which was quite fun as well.

Aimee with the Band at Hideaway... this is the band
that played Wonderful Tonight by Eric Clapton our
first night the the first song they played - this is
our song, it was so surprising and perfect when they began to play it. Our last night we requested they play it and videotaped ourselves dancing and them playing.
Next Stop Raintree Lodge outside of Suva
We got a taxi to our next place, Raintree Lodge. This was about a 2 hour taxi ride ($50 american) and took us close to Suva, the capital of Fiji. The place is actually a backpacking lodge (hostel) but we stayed in our own private bure what with it being our honeymoon and all. Our bure was wonderful, we never saw the backpacking lodgings/kitchen area. We were within a 5 min. walk of the only rainforest national forest in Fiji. One day we went to Suva and walked around/shopped. Not really impressive after being to Europe and living in American, but McDonalds sure was good! The next day we went to the rainforest to go trekking to these pools. We hooked up with 2 other girls backpacking through and made a go of it. It was beautiful and very cool until....Aimee decided to get herself bitten by a spider! Actually she accidentally walked through a web trying to help me out and got bitten. Naturally this freaked us out pretty good, who knows how deadly rainforest spiders are!!!! Well, it turns out that they aren't deadly at all. I sucked on the bite to get out as much poison as possible and we immediately hiked out. We found an elderly couple accompanied by a park ranger who told us there were no deadly spiders. But we went ahead and went back to the lodge anyway, so I never got to make a go of the famous rope swing off a cliff into a natural pool or jump off a 30ft cliff next to a waterfall into the same pool...I was bummed, but at least Aimee is OK!
